01Overview

“Hang Loose” — an emote illustration that lives inside League of Legends: an armored gauntlet throwing the shaka, painted to read instantly at the tiny size players see in game.

02The challenge

An emote is seen at a few dozen pixels, mid-fight, for a second. It has to read instantly, match the game’s rendering and still feel premium.

03Approach
  1. 01

A single, bold silhouette — the shaka gesture — readable at in-game size.

  2. 02

Material rendering (leather, steel, rivets) in the game’s painterly language.

  3. 03

Built at large resolution and tested down to the final emote size.

04Outcome
In-game

Shipped as an official League of Legends emote.

Readable

Designed for the smallest size first.
